Mary Kay, along with the association of Independent Cosmetics Manufacturers and Distributors (ICMAD), has announced its support of the reintroduction of what was originally known as the Cosmetic Safety Amendments Act of 2012.

This proposed legislation would enhance the FDA’s ability to review ingredients in cosmetic products to maintain safety. It will force a uniform safety standard across the entire industry, protecting consumers and providing more transparency when it comes to ingredients.

Product Safety Regulation

Stronger federal legislation will set a clear standard for all cosmetic products and manufacturers. According to an article on Beauty Packaging, it will also protect the viability of small businesses. After all, nothing can be more important than safety when it comes to personal care products and cosmetics. Additionally, a consumer trend toward health conscious buying decisions may muster more support behind these safety standards.

ICMAD has a long history of supporting federal legislation to promote product safety and utilize the best science in the industry. Mary Kay also stated in a press release that it takes pride in putting consumer health above all else. They would like to see these efforts improved with the passing of this legislation.
