jarsIndependent Cosmetic Manufacturers & Distributors’ (ICMAD) annual Young Designers Award competition has officially begun for 2017. This year, participating design students are challenged to design the label and outer packaging for a 6oz clear jar with cap, provided by East Hill Industries.

The jars have been distributed to participating schools, and those schools will submit their top 15 entries to be reviewed by judges in December. Judges will select the top five entries, and the top three entries will be flown out to California for the awards ceremony. Whether or not they win the top prize, the awards ceremony is an excellent opportunity for the finalists to network with some of the cosmetics and personal care industry’s elite.

Winning the Competition

The panel of judges includes cosmetic and personal care packaging design experts who have not yet been announced. The criteria they will be judging on will include uniqueness, ability to stand out against competitors, and the ability to be economically reproduced.

Last year’s winning design was titled “Udder Madness” and submitted by Nicole Shepherd from the American Academy of Art in Chicago. To see this design and find more details about last year’s Young Designers Competition, view this blog post.
