The world’s largest consumer goods manufacturer recently released a sustainability report containing a list of company goals, including doubling the use of recycled resin in all plastic packaging.
For those unfamiliar, resin is a term attributed to thick liquids capable of hardening into transparent solids, such as plastic. Additionally, P&G says it follows 12 environmental sustainability goals when it comes to manufacturing. Among these goals is the use of 100% recycled or renewable materials for all products and packaging. The company is striving for zero consumer and manufacturing waste to make its way to landfills.
Major Cosmetic Packaging Reduction
According to Beauty Packaging, P&G reports that it has reduced packaging by 4.5% per consumer use since 2010. By 2020, they plan to reduce packaging by 20% per unit of production. To help achieve these goals, P&G is looking into doubling the use of recycled resin.
For example, the Gillette Venus & Olay razor package is constructed from PET, recycled PET, and paperboard (You can read more about PET in our dictionary). The package is recyclable and uses 26% less packaging during manufacturing. These packages also reduce carbon emissions because they are so densely packed — they cut down on transportation.
