In a previous blog post, we described this year’s ICMAD Young Designers Competition for which we were supplying the first place prize. Each year, the competition challenges college students to create primary and secondary packaging for a specific cosmetic container. This year, contestants designed a 6 oz. clear squeeze bottle label and outer packaging for a personal care product such as shampoo, lotion, or shower gel. Every entry included an original brand and product name.

As was announced at the awards dinner February 4, the 2015 ICMAD Young Designers Competition first place winner is Travis Cuellar of the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising of San Francisco. His design was named “Sudz,” and it included a kids’ body wash. As his prize, Travis has received a $2,500 cash prize and a design contract with East Hill Industries. His design is also being featured in the Evanston Art Center in Evanston, Illinois. The second and third place winners were Ajalique Chapman of Colorado Mesa University and Kyle Newkirk of the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design.

Designs were judged based on originality, creativity, and shelf impact. The panel of judges included ICMAD board members and packaging executives. Refer to our previous blog post for a full list of judges. The awards dinner was held at the Island Hotel and featured many top industry names and celebrity personalities. The keynote speaker was Wen Hair Care creator Chaz Dean.
