Dog owner snuggling with dogAnimal shelter dogs deserve a good grooming too, and unfortunately not all of them have access to the necessary tools. Product manufacturer Wahl has paired up with GreaterGood.org to donate supplies and launch a Dirty Dogs Makeover contest to help the shelter dogs find forever homes.

“We all know first impressions are important, but for shelter dogs it can make the difference between life and death,” said Shay Moeller, pet product manager for Wahl, in press release. “While rescue organizations work tirelessly, many dogs aren’t getting properly groomed due to a lack of resources. The effects of a life on the street can often overshadow the beauty that lives inside these dogs, and too often they are overlooked by adoptive families.”

Ten of the most dramatic dog makeovers are included in an online gallery, where the public will vote on the most impressive. The shelters or rescue organizations associated with the top three winners will win grants to continue their work. First place will receive $5,000, second place will win $2,000 and third place will earn $1,000. The contest runs until August 21, 2017. You can vote on Wahl’s Pets Facebook page.

Wahl Pets products include a wide range of shampoos, deodorants, flea and tick control, refresh wipes, and more. The products include no harsh chemicals and the design is intended to make grooming time as simple as possible for dog and owner alike.
